This is a basic overview of what you should include in a system configuration post. Any post you make will surely help others who are setting up or using similar hardware.

Basically, you should at least include:

* output of lspci to show hardware
* output of lsusb to show usb hardware information
* output of dmesg
* specific configuration files:
* xorg.conf or XFree86
* /etc/fstab
* network configuration files
* alsa configuration files
* output of packages installed (rpm, emerge, etc)
* hdparm settings (hdparm -i /dev/hdx where x is your hard drive, cdrom, etc)
* hdparm timing settings (hdpamr -tT /dev/hdx where x is same as line above)
* screenshot of your desktop
* amount of memory
* hard drive size
* grub.conf or lilo.conf
* output of your /usr/src/linux/.config or zcat /proc/config.gz for kernel information
* your make.conf if using a "compiled from source distro"

I will add more as I think of things.......

You could also install (if not already) and use lshw - http://ezix.sourceforge.net/software/lshw.html - which shows very detailed hardware specs, for an example, see this link - http://www.edwiget.name/content/view/12/26/
