someone also asked me recently why I set my keys to never expire but I change them every couple of years...the reason is simple: if I sign and encrypt something to you, you may have archived it. If you open it up in the future and my key is now expired, you would not be able to validate the signature or unencrypt the file.
I simply change the keys every few years and create new ones that don't expire. I don't worry about old keys being compromised because I don't actually use them anymore.
