A weird problem started a couple of weeks ago after a world update to sabayon linux that I thought was caused by the update.  I later found it was caused by me...lol

The problem was that any single click in kde was registered as a double click and that the mouse settings in kcontrol for either single click or double click did not matter.  I also was not able to close firefox tabs unless I clicked three times and I was not able to open any drop down menu's like file, edit, view, etc in most all applications.  I also was not able to right click on most input boxes, such as this forum post, or on any of the kde taskbars and menus.

I found the problem was actually caused by me changing the settings for the X server when my mouse started acting weird (which was later attributed to the battery in my wireless mouse going bad).  In gentoo/sabayon, these settings are in /etc/X11/xorg.conf  The mistake was that I had two different mouse settings both active.  Here is the example with the problem fixed by commenting out the duplicate in the Mouse2 section:

Code:

# **********************************************************************
# Core Pointer's InputDevice section
# **********************************************************************

Section "InputDevice"

# Identifier and driver

    Identifier  "Mouse1"
    Driver      "mouse"

    Option      "Device"        "/dev/psaux"
    Option      "Protocol"      "ImPS/2"
    #Option     "Device"        "/dev/input/mouse1"
    #Option     "Protocol"      "PS/2"
    Option      "ZAxisMapping"  "4 5"

EndSection

#Section "InputDevice"
#    Identifier "Mouse2"
#    Driver     "mouse"
#    Option     "Protocol"      "ImPS/2"
#    Option     "Protocol"      "PS/2"
#    Option     "Device"        "/dev/input/mice"
#    Option     "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
#EndSection

and also this one had to be removed for InputDevice Mouse2:

Code:

Section "ServerLayout"
# The Identifier line must be present

    Identifier  "Main Layout"
    Screen 0    "Screen 1"
    InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer"
    #InputDevice        "Mouse2" "SendCoreEvents"
    #InputDevice "Synaptics1" "SendCoreEvents"
    #InputDevice "wacom1" "SendCoreEvents"
    #InputDevice "wacom2" "SendCoreEvents"
    #InputDevice "wacom3" "SendCoreEvents"
    InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard"

EndSection

After these changes were made and restarting the X server using ctrl+alt+backspace the problem was gone.
