The new version of firefox for 64 bit is not compatible with java on sabayon or gentoo. This only affects 64 bit architectures. The fix is real easy, just install / emerge mozilla-firefox-bin which is a binary 32 bit version of firefox. Then you can add an icon to your kicker or menubar or desktop to /opt/firefox/firefox to start it. There is also a new firefox menu entry for Internet in kde that has (bin) in the name to indicate the 32 bit version. Both the 64 bit version of firefox and the 32 bit versions can be installed on the same system. Whenever you need java enabled, run the 32 bit version. If you don't, use the 64 bit version. Or, simply use the 32 bit version as your default firefox browser.  Bookmarks, cookies, etc are the same between the two if you do decide to keep both 64 and 32 bit versions installed.

at least the 64 bit version 2.0.0.8 does not have this problem that I have been able to tell.
