there is usually a setting on the camera to be in ptp mode - make sure that it is set correctly.

Also, in digicam, if there is not an exact model, use the autodetect feature and if that doesn't work, set it to generic ptp mode.

Might want to see this too - http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/digikam-devel/2005-December/002786.html

and this http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=119170

and this - http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1393207&group_id=8874&atid=108874

make sure you are running the latest versions of gphoto2 and digikam and also that you are using the correct ptp setting on the camera and also in the digikam software.

hey ed,thanks alot.i apologize for not providing that much info,it was 3:30 am and i was frustrated lol.i remembered you posting a topic about a nikon and ptp and checked that out.i will go through my cam menu and look for the ptp setting.after i had some sleep i googled some more and i believe my problem is that gphoto on dapper drake is a couple versions behind.digikam does auto detect my cam it just won't let me download pics.i did install gtkam and the gtkam-gimp plugin and it works perfectly with both.again thanks for the quick response.
