If you are getting java heap errors in azureus running gentoo or sabayon, try to re-emerge it using this command:

ANT_OPTS="-Xmx256m" emerge azureus
By default, java ant is limited to 64MB of memory. Substitute 256 in the above command with some multiple of 64 that is higher than 64, such as 128, 196, 256, etc. It will vary on your total system memory. 256 is what I use with a total of 1GB of system memory.
this should fix the problem - tested on 2.5.0.0-r3
