I would assume if you are looking for an integrated development environment, it will be dependend on the version of solaris (sparc or x86) that you are using and also the version/distribution of linux your are using. However, for less bloat and "runs from shell", gcc installs on both versions of solaris and is the default compiler on linux.
I really dont mind helping with linux questions, but I am wondering exactly what you are needing since this is about the 3rd or 4th similar question from you and another employee of the same company (which offers offshore IT solutions) regarding solaris and linux.
