i was trying to get a wireless connection running and i did alot of things, don't even remember everything but,i did install and uninstall some drivers.i'm not worried about wireless right now but,i rebooted my computer and now my ethernet connection does'nt work right.knetwork manager does'nt start up now.when i boot up i get a few errors pertaining to ppp.interface ppp0 does'nt exist ensure that you have loaded the correct modules for your hardware net.ppp0 failed to start cannot start dhcpd as net.ppp0 would;nt start.i also get these same errors when i run /etc/init.d /dhcpd restart.i can fire up a shell and run /sbin/dhcpcd -n -d eth0 and things are fine.i'm just lazy and prefer clicking on knetwork manager to get my connection going.i have recently added a linksys WRT110 range plus wireless router but,i run through it wired.when i first added the router everything thing worked fine and if i run my connection without the router i get the same errors and problems so,i don't thimk it's the router causing my problems.my problems did'nt start until i started tinkering around with things. _________________ Brian Edmisten

I don't think you will need a ppp (dialup) connection for your laptop, so make sure it is disabled in knetworkmanager (all one word is the command to start it manually).
Also, you might try to run the following command which will remove net.ppp0 from the startup routine (if it was added by something):

hey ed,thanks alot.that did the trick.i have no idea how the ppp got there.i thought it was strange that i got a ppp error since i'm running a high speed ethernet connection.i might have messed things up when i was trying to get my wireless running..my wireless card has been reconized since i upgraded yo a 2.6.25 kernel and then one day after an equo world it disappeared.i re-installed the mad wif drivers with equo and that did'nt help so,i went to the madwifi site and got the precedure for an svn update and that's when i started having trouble.my wireless is reconized again but i can't get it running.but, that's another topic. _________________ Brian Edmisten
