If you don't know what an easter egg is, it is basically a hidden message or feature in software. A very in-depth explanation of easter eggs is on wiki.

I will start this off with one of the most cool easter eggs ever cause it has to do with hacking too. Did you see the movie Matrix Reloaded? Trinity uses nmap 2.54BETA25 to find a vulnerable ssh server and then exploits it using the ssh1 crc32 exploit. Well, there is the hidden hacking scene inside the xmatrix screensaver (part of xscreensaver). Here is how to enable the easter egg:

$ xmatrix -small -crack

And here is what it will look like: (links to my personal web site to play video)

Now that I have the local video streaming working, here is the same video as hosted on youtube:

hmmm.....gonna bump this to the top with another one. Do you use mozilla, firefox, galeon, or another gecko based web browser? If so, click here for a easter egg.

The link above may not work on other browsers. The meaning behind mozilla: Mozilla is a combination of two words Mosaic and GodZilla. Back in the early days of the world wide web, NCSA's Mosaic was the dominant browser. It was at this time, Netscape Inc. came up with the Mozilla browser which competed with Mosaic. Hence it was named as "Mosaic Killer" by it's developers. The above easter egg should work even with a Galeon. Mozilla and Galeon use a common engine called gecko. If you are not reading this using Mozilla (or Galeon).

If you are not reading this using Mozilla, Firefox, (or Galeon), here is the hidden message
And the beast shall be made legion. Its numbers shall be increased a thousand thousand fold. The din of a million keyboards like unto a great storm shall cover the earth, and the followers of Mammon shall tremble.
from The Book of Mozilla, 3:31
(Red Letter Edition)
Firefox v2.0.0.11 on gentoo will display:
And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced. But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird.The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast
fire and thunder upon them. For the beast had been reborn with its strength renewed, and the followers of Mammon cowered in horror.

from The Book of Mozilla, 7:15
