My Linux predictions over the years have been pretty much dead on.  I stated when I first started using Linux around 1995, that by 2000 we would have a desktop that would exceed the functionality and eye-candy of Windows.   I said around 1998, that by 2007 Linux would have world-wide acceptance.  I stated by 2010 that Linux would have desktop dominance....and this is left to be determined.

Today I want to make a new prediction.  I predict that within the next 2 years, the Linux and Microsoft debate over copyrights will get very ugly.  I predict that Microsoft's attempt to retain desktop dominance by claiming Linux infringes are Microsoft patents will actually improve Linux' desktop dominance.  I predict that Microsoft's sub-$500 laptop for children will be a failure, because Linux already had the one-laptop-per-child debate many years before Microsoft ever considered it.  I also predict that Microsoft will continue to steal ideas from Linux, such as beryl, compiz, and gdesklets features included in Vista because they simply don't know how to innovate....only seek, purchase, and destroy....which is how they seem to get new technologies by seeking an existing solution, purchase the companies rights, then destroy the small company through litigation.

I am sure I have many other predictions for the near future.  Just wanted to thank Microsoft for furthering Linux deployments with all their free negative advertising and spreading FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt)
