There is a new poll on the front page that is asking, would you prefer a weekly mp3 or ogg video podcast? I wanted to explain the reason I am asking that question.
I have wanted to implement podcasts for some time on this web site. I thought that we could have weekly discussions on the podcasts as a way to extend training, howtos, news, reviews, interviews, and any other information that I may come across. The stopper is that I don't know what the visitors to the web site would prefer - mp3 audio format or ogg video format?
Either of these formats will work on your computer. However, something I have been doing lately is downloading a bunch of weekly podcasts and saving them to my mobile mp3 player, then listening to them while traveling or driving.
Mobile players are now relatively inexpensive that can play both audio and video files. For example, an IPOD now only costs a couple hundred bucks. The mp3 player that I originally paid almost $300 a year ago is now around $130 and it holds 4,000 or so normal length songs.
Anyways, if I were to offer these podcasts, which format would you prefer?
Also, if you have any ideas for topics, post them here. It can be anything you want to know about, tell me about some new software or distro you are using and would like to see reviewed, hardware, etc, etc.
I also plan on making the next MLUG presentation available too......to supplement the presentation files. Everyone who has ever been to a meeting, knows I talk about a lot of things that there simply isn't room for in the slides. Sometimes slides have pictures that I am talking about, but no text on the slide....so if you miss the actual meeting, you miss a lot of info.
