t2 Development Release: T2 2.2.0 RC

Rene Rebe has announced the first development release of T2 2.2.0, a source-based distribution originally forked from ROCK Linux: "Finally, the release candidate of the 2.2.0 series 'Get the power back!' is out. The series features udev, early user-space, fully modular kernel, X11R7, C++ cross compilation, PowerPC 64 and MIPS 64 support, as well as a whole lot of updates and re-factoring under the hood." As usual, the new version is available in the form of build scripts (2.4MB) for creating a complete distribution from source code, or as a set of pre-compiled CD images for several architectures. vlos Development Release: VLOS 1.3 Beta 1

After a series of alpha releases, the first beta of the Gentoo-based VLOS 1.3 has been released: "A new version of VLOS 1.3 is available for download." The new release includes a number of major changes, such as improvements to the Gentoo port of Anaconda and new Mono-based applications, including Beagle, F-Spot and Banshee. It also comes with a modular X.Org 7.0 and uses 'gnome-mount' for mounting external storage devices. Among applications, GNOME has been upgraded to version 2.14.1 and KDE to 3.5.2. VLOS 1.3 Beta 1 is available for download as a 2-CD set or a single DVD image for i686 and AMD64 architectures; here is a quick link to the i686 DVD: vlos-1.3-beta1-dvd_i686.iso (1,332MB).

parsix Distribution Release: Parsix GNU/Linux 0.80

Parsix GNU/Linux 0.80 has been released: "After 3 months of development and testing, a brand new version of Parsix GNU/Linux i686-optimized desktop is available. Major improvements are better system performance, new documentation, updated software packages, better hardware support and Parsix's own apt repository that enables users to get further updates." The new Parsix is based on the current Debian unstable tree, with kernel 2.6.16.17 (plus many patches including CK's performance patches and extra WLAN drivers), X.Org 7.0.20, GNOME 2.14.2, OpenOffice.org 2.0.2 and new desktop theme. frenzy BSD Release: Frenzy 1.0

Frenzy 1.0, a FreeBSD-based live CD with tools for system administration, network analysis and hardware testing, has been released: "New release: Frenzy 1.0 (Dreamchild). Frenzy is a system administrator's portable instrument, a live CD based on FreeBSD OS, which allows the administrator to boot from it and get a fully functional system with a wide variety of software for tuning, testing and analysing the network, testing computer hardware and much more. Frenzy is released in two different variants: Frenzy standard and Frenzy extended." Read the rest of the release notes for further information. monowall Development Release: m0n0wall 1.23 Beta 1

The first beta of the FreeBSD-based m0n0wall firewall, version 1.23, is ready for download and testing. What's new? "Added support for 3rd party extensions in the group management and dynamic menu system; changes in captive portal; do not generate anti-spoof rules for optional interfaces that have other interfaces bridged to them when the filtering bridge is on; updated base system to FreeBSD 4.11-RELEASE-p18; recompiled ipsec-tools without FreeBSD patch to use 'security' syslog facility instead of 'daemon'." kate Development Release: Kate OS 3.0 Alpha 1

The first alpha release of the desktop-oriented Kate OS 3.0 is out: "An alpha version of Kate OS 3.0 is available. This release supplies a better support for IRDE and Bluetooth technologies. It contains almost all target packages except for additional plugins for the XFce environment. Apart from two standard installation CDs, GNOME (2.14.2) and KDE (3.5.2) extension modules are also available." Kate OS 3.0 is powered by Linux kernel 2.6.16.19 and includes X.Org 7.1, glibc 2.4, GCC 4.0.2, Apache 2.2.2, Firefox 1.5.0.4, XFce 4.3.90 and other up-to-date software. engarde Development Release: EnGarde Secure Linux 3.0.7

EnGarde Secure Linux has been updated to version 3.0.7: "Guardian Digital is happy to announce the release of EnGarde Secure Community 3.0.7. This release includes several bug fixes and feature enhancements to the Guardian Digital WebTool and the SELinux policy, several updated packages, and several new packages available for installation. New features: a new package (hwlister) which can be used to generate an inventory of all the hardware which comprises your system; PHP was re-built with Curl support...." mepis Development Release: SimplyMEPIS 6.0 Beta 5

The fifth beta of SimplyMEPIS 6.0 has been released: "MEPIS has released beta 5, the final beta, of SimplyMEPIS 6.0. Beta 5 includes a few changes in applications and components. Lame, 915resolution, and VMware kernel support were added to the bootable / installable CD. Acpi-support and klaptop have been replaced by kpowersave. This has resulted in reports of better out-of-the-box suspend-to-ram and suspend-to-disk functionality for laptops. Kde-systemsettings was replaced with 'MEPIS System Settings' which is a custom configuration of the standard 'settings' kio-slave." Read the rest of the press release for further information. dynebolic Distribution Release: dyne:bolic 2.0

dyne:bolic 2.0, a Linux-based live CD with a collection of software for multimedia production, audio and video manipulation, sound composition and synthesis, has been released: "The dyne.org foundation proudly presents dyne:bolic version 2.0, code name "dhoruba". The new release comes out after two years of development and it's a complete rebuild and rewrite of the whole system; it brings new possibilities in customizing the running system and makes it modular and very easy to include new software, much more usable and maintainable than before." suse Distribution Release: SUSE Linux 10.1 Live DVD

The openSUSE project has released the last of the series of SUSE Linux 10.1 products - the Live DVD: "The SUSE Linux 10.1 Live DVD is available now. The Live DVD is a 32bit Intel-based system which contains 4 GB of great Linux software compressed into a 1.7 GB ISO." Here is the brief release announcement. The Live DVD edition, which includes both GNOME and KDE desktop environments, is not installable to hard disk, but can be used to test hardware compatibility, perform system rescue tasks or evaluate SUSE Linux 10.1. puppy Distribution Release: OneBone Puppy 2.00

The Puppy Linux development team has released a new edition of Puppy Linux - OneBone Puppy. Without any graphical applications, the entire distribution takes only 26.4 MB: "This is a play-thing, requested by a few people on the forum, and definitely not for the average user. In other words, Linux commandline nerds only! OneBone does not have any X GUI applications. It does have Elinks web browser, Ytree file manager and MP text editor. The Lucent and SmartLink modem drivers are included. There are lots of text-mode applications out there and a very interesting flavour of Puppy could be created, based on this starting point."
